Malibu, For a Day

Our last full day in LA was spent at the beach.

About an hour's drive away is the popular seaside resort of Malibu.


Malibu is 34km of blissful white sandy beaches, stunning beach front homes and a surfer's paradise.

You can see why Lauren Conrad decided to spend that fateful Summer here with Jason and will forever be known as the girl that didn't go to Paris.

We drove to end of Malibu and set our sites on Zuma beach passing many surfer dudes, film crews and beach yoga junkies. 

I love this place. You can be and do whatever you want to do and nobody will really judge you. Can you imagine turning up to Brighton beach and doing yoga? 

We practically had the beach to ourselves. It was still early-on in the season and I would imagine a little chilly for natives of Malibu, but still it was warm enough to chill on the beach and watch the world go by. 

It was far too cold to go in the sea. Egged on by the tons of surfers and kids learning to surf in the water, I sure did give it a try...

But nope! I was certainly staying dry today. 

We chilled under the sun (always wearing protection though, we are both blonde babies and we burn in an instant!) until our tummies started rumbling.  

Zuma we'd love to stay longer but we really moustache...

We hopped back in the car and drove along the pacific coast highway. Roof down, music on loud and taking in the scenes.

We found one of the few restaurants that was near the beach. A lot of places in Malibu are built above the rocks or sea cliffs and don't always have beach access.

The Sunset Restaurant is everything you could wish for in a Malibu eatery. It combines chic décor, friendly fun staff with cool vibes and an even cooler menu.

We opted to sit at the bar grab a couple of cold Coors Light and order some of their finger food.

I had a love a fair with some Fish Tacos.

But I'd rather not taco about it...

We couldn't have made a better decision than sitting at the bar. 

The bar invited conversation and soon we'd made friends with all that were sitting at the bar and the bar staff. 

We shared stories of Britain and America, joked about politics and the differences in cultures but most of all the Americans just wanted to show off their country. They are so proud and its so infectious.

They all had their top tips for visiting LA, Malibu and Santa Monica and it just made me want to stay on the West Coast forever.

We didn't have time to do everything on our list but there was one place we could visit on our way back to LA.

A place famous for it's happy hour Mai Tai's and cool Hawaian vibes: Duke's.

Nestled right on the rocks, Duke's is a little more wild child Stacey whilst the Sunset is a little more sophisticated Sally (if you know what I mean).

But I also have an inner Stacey and she was coming out this afternoon!

The place was buzzing with food, drink and hula dancers and when a place is famous for their Mai Tai's it would be rude not to try them right?

I belong to the beach, I belong to the sea. How could I leave? With 2x1 Mai Tai's, sandy salty hair and this blue-eyed prince keeping me company?

Eventually he peeled me away from Malibu, it was time to head back to the city, but Malibu we will be back!

If you're ever in Malibu visit The Sunset. Book a table for late evening, near sun-down and watch the sky turn pink whilst you enjoy a cold glass of wine. That's my plan next time!

But if you fancy a bit more of a party afternoon then head to Duke's (just FYI, Duke's has no beach access!).

We didn't think we had caught much sun, until you look back at the photos....
