Salads, Dresses & Wraps

When you've got lots of university work to do and lots of essays to write, what's a girl to do? 

Cuando tienes muchos deberes y trabajos que hacer para la uni, que debe hacer una chica?

Well, I went shopping. How about you?

Pues yo fui de compras. Y tú que?

Life can't all be about work, work, work. A girl's got to let her hair down sometimes. 

La vida no es solo trabajo. A veces, tienes que soltarte un poco y divertirte. 

This cheeky pair distracted me for a few hours on Thursday, with a little trip to La Cañada (not that they had to drag me kicking and screaming). 

Estas dos mujeres me entretenieron unas cuantas horas el jueves llevándome a La Cañada (no que tenían que forzarme). 

A girly day out with the Mother and Grandmother had been long overdue and, with no classes today, a little bit of retail therapy was exactly what I needed. 

Un día de chicas con la madre y la abuela estaba atrasada desde hace tiempo y, sin clases hoy, ir de compras es justo lo que necesitaba, además es la mejor terapia. 

Our shopping trip went the same as it always does:

Como siempre, nuestra tarde de compras fue algo así:

Nanna: "Well there is no point me picking out anything for her, she will only turn her nose up at it. This is all the fashion now, Charlotte"

La abuela: "Pues es inútil que le escoja algo yo, porque le hace asco a todo lo que elijo. Esto esta de moda ahora Charlotte"

Me: "I'm not wearing something just because it's the fashion Nanna. It just won't suit me"

Yo: "No me voy a poner algo porque esta de moda, abuela. Eso no me va a quedar bien"

And Mummy, bless her, caught in the middle of our fashion wars. 

Y mamá, la pobre, atrapada en el medio de la disputa de moda. 

After dragging them around all of the shops we needed to revitalize. We could all agree food was a good option. 

Las arrastre por todas las tiendas y necesitábamos un poco de revitalización. Por fin estábamos de acuerdo que comer era buena opción. 

And we all agreed the ever popular (and healthy!) Terra Sana was an even better option.
Y el siempre popular (y sano!) Terra Sana era incluso mejor opción. 

With menus bigger than our faces we had some tough decisions to make. Salads, wraps, smoothies?! The possibilities were endless. 

Con menús más grandes que nuestras caras, elegir que pedir era difícil. Ensaladas, wraps, smoothies? Las posibilidades eran interminables.  

Nanna was baffled with choices. 

La abuela estába desconcertada con las opciones. 

We decided to skip the yummy smoothies and went straight for coffee and agua con gas. 

Decidimos saltarnos los smoothies y pedir directamente unos cafés y agua con gas. 

Then it was feeding time. Nom.

Nanna ordered the Cajun Chicken Cesar Salad.
La abuela pidió la ensalada César con pollo cajún.

There was utter silence whilst we wolfed down our food. 

Había silencio total mientras zampábamos la comida. 

Of course I finished my plate.
Por supuesto limpié mi plato.

Now I know I have a very popular and modern Grandmother who is very in to technology, Facebook and iPads, but she is still getting the hang of photos....

Ahora. Sé que tengo una abuela muy popular y moderna que le gusta mucho la tecnología, Facebook y los iPad, pero sigue sin manejar el arte de hacer fotos...

However, she did a pretty good job with these ones!

Sin embargo, estas salieron perfectas abuelita!

I am so grateful to have these two amazing women in my life. They are still my role models and I am the way that I am because of them. I love and respect them so much and can't imagine my life without them. Thank you for a lovely day out, it means a lot.
Soy tan afortunada de tener a estas dos mujeres increíbles en mi vida. Son mis modelos a seguir y soy como soy por ellas. Las quiero y las admiro un montón y no podría imaginar mi vida sin ellas. Muchísimas gracias por este hermoso día afuera, significa mucho para mí. 

Sweet Caroline

Last week, as some of you may know, my dear friend Caroline flew all the way from the USA to Spain for a visit with her German manfriend. 

Cómo algunos ya sabéis, mi amiga Caroline viajó desde los EE.UU para hacerme una visita a España con su amiguito alemán. 

I was so excited for their arrival. I hadn't seen them since August and it felt like forever. 

Estaba deseando su llegada. No los había visto desde Agosto y parecía una eternidad. 

We all worked at summer camp together so most of our time was spent reminiscing about New York, saying stupid stuff or pretending to be naughty campers. 

Trabajamos juntos en un campamento de verano y pasamos su estancia recordando el verano en Nueva York, diciendo tonterias o imitando a los campers traviesos. 

The really amazing thing is I thought when I said goodbye to Carol back at the end of camp in 2011, that would be it. I would never see her again. 

Lo que si es increíble es que cuando Caroline y yo nos despedimos después del campamento en el 2011, creía que nunca la iba a volver a ver. 

Somehow our paths have crossed more than once in the last 3 years and I am so grateful to have her as a friend, even if she is across the pond! Life is weird like that sometimes!

De alguna manera nuestros caminos se han cruzado más de una vez en los últimos 3 años y agradezco su amistad aunque viva al otro lado de la charca. La vida realmente es sorprendente!

We did do some cultural stuff but I'm afraid we kind of forgot to take photos as we were too busy catching up on EVERYTHING. We did make it to the beach though...

Hizimos algunas cosillas culturales pero estábamos tan ocupadas poniendonos al día con nuestras vidas que se nos olvidó tomar fotos. Pero fuimos a la playa...

Then we had to say goodbye, which I really wasn't looking forward to.
Después llegó la hora de despedirnos, lo que menos estaba deseando. 

The worst part about having friends that live all over the world is that you never know when you will see them again.
Lo peor de tener amigos por todo el mundo es que nunca sabes la próxima vez que los verás.

My guests have sadly departed now which means it's back to normality for me. Catching up on lots of university work, classes, getting back to my yoga and getting distracted taking photos of everything beautiful and interesting that surrounds me.
Mis invitados ya se han ido y a mi sólo me queda una habitación vacía y la vuelta a la normalidad: recuperando clases del máster, haciendo trabajos, el yoga y distrayendome tomando fotos de todas las cosas bonitas e interesantes que me rodean.

Summer camp is one of the best things I ever decided to do. Not only did I spend an entire summer frolicking in the USA but I made friends from all over the planet.
La mejor decisión que he hecho ha sido trabajar en un campamento de verano en los EEUU. Pasé el verano bajo el sol y ahora tengo amigos en todas partes del planeta.

And you know what that means right?
Y sabes lo que significa eso no?

This time I was playing hostess to Caroline, my American, and Basti, my German.
Esta vez era yo la anfitriona, a Caroline, mi americana, y Basti, mi alemán.

On their first night here we couldn't make up our minds about where to go for dinner.
No sabíamos dónde ir a cenar su primera noche aquí.

So we played the 3 adjectives game. We decided that our food tonight should be:
Entonces jugamos al juego de los 3 adjetivos. Decidimos nuestra cena tenía que ser:

1. Filling || Que llene
2. Spanish || Español
3. Yummy || Delicioso

Wait, I'm getting ahead of myself...
Espera, que me estoy adelantando...

So after uhming and ahing, Mamma B suggested we try the newly refurbished "Da Vinci". We were hungry, it was on Calahonda so only down the road... Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!
Bueno dimos vueltas, entonces Mamá B sugirió probar "Da Vinci" que acababa de abrir tras reformas. Estábamos hambrientos y estaba en Calahonda osea al lado de casa... Encontramos el ganador!

The restaurant was Italian (you're probably thinking this doesn't fit the 2nd criteria, but bare with me!) and had a cool modern feel to it, with funky art work hanging from the walls and eclectic furniture.
El restaurante era italiano (pensarás que esto no encaja con el 2º punto, pero esperaté!) y tenía una decoración moderna y artística, con pinturas colgando de las paredes y muebles ecléticos. 

And in an effort to be quirky, their menus doubled up as your table mat

Y para destacar su excentrismo, su menú dobla como un salvamantel

We were treated to salmon and caviar canapés on arrival whilst browsing our table mat and sipping some vino tinto.

Empezamos la cena con unos canapés de caviar y salmon mientras ojeámabos al menú  y dámabos sorbitos al vino tinto.  

But it had to be good old pizza didn't it? Who are we kidding with caviar and wine?! These were home-cooked and baked in the pizza oven outside and looked amazing (they tasted even better!). 

Pues claro que teníamos que pedir pizza! Nosotros, pijitos con caviar y vino? Ja! Eran caseras hechas al horno de pizza al aire libre. Tenían unas pintas increíbles (y sabían aún mejor!). 

I got the Fruti Di Mare with prawns, crab and mussels.
Pedí el Fruiti Di Mare con gambas, cangrejo y mejillones. 

Carol ordered the Vaticano with bacon, onion and lots of garlic.
Carol pidió el Vaticano con béicon, cebolla y mucho ajo. 

And ze German got tuna and sweetcorn. He tried convincing us it was THE best pizza in the world, but seafood beats tuna any day. 

Y der alemán pidió atún y maíz. Intentó convencernos (sin mucho éxito) de que era la MEJOR pizza del mundo, pero mariscos vence al atún siempre. 

To finish off we were treated to a shot of Ron con miel (honey rum)
Para acabar nos invitaron a un chupito de Ron con miel

which we of course downed with class and poise!
que bebimos con toda la gracia y elegancia del mundo!

We are classy ladies after all!

Al fin y al cabo somos mujeres con clase!

So in review:

Practically ticked all three boxes! You should try the adjectives game next time you have a decision to make. It works on anything: food, films, holidays, boys...
Casi coincidimos en los tres puntos! Prueba el juego de los adjetivos la próxima vez que tengas que decidir algo. Funciona con todo: comida, películas, vacaciones chicos... 

Then we skipped dessert and had pancakes at home instead to finish off pancake day! 

No pedimos postre pero hizimos crepes en mi casa. Todavía era el dia de los crepes en Inglaterra y teniamos que acabarlo bien!
