Today I am in Mijas! 

Hoy estoy en Mijas!

It's one of the oldest (and cutest) little white villages of Malaga province and one of my favourite places to visit. 

Es uno de los pueblos más viejos (y más monos) de Málaga provincia y uno de mis lugares favoritos. 

The perfect day out to be a tourist in my own town!

La excursión perfecta para ser un tourista en mi propia ciudad!

Be warned, there is a very steep twisty road to get to the top. The trick is not to get stuck behind a bus on your way up, especially if your car has trouble getting up hills...

Os aviso, la carretera de subida es muy empinada y sinuosa. El truco es no atascarse detrás de un bus, sobretodo si tu coche tiene problemas al arrancar en pendiente.

Alex came to keep me company whilst my parents were sunning it up in Egypt. It was his first time in Spain, so I jumped at the chance to show off my hometown! 

Alex vino a hacerme compañia mientras mis padres estaban de vacaciones en Egipto. Era su primera vez en España y aproveché para demostrarle lo mejor de mi ciudad natal!

We paid our respects to the Virgen de Peña chapel, carved inside a rock in 1548. 

Rendimos honores a la Ermita de la Virgen de Peña, excavada en la roca en 1548.

Then we went exploring a bit more

Después fuimos a explorar un poquito más

We found the cutests old couple sitting together, holding hands and admiring the view. I couldn't help but take a cheeky snap. It was precious. 

Nos encontramos a una pareja mayor sentados juntos y cogidos de la mano admirando las vistas. No pude resistir tomar una foto. Era lo más lindo. 

Mijas was practically empty, as it's our low season, so we had the place to ourselves! 

Mijas estaba casi vacio, ya que es temporada baja; estábamos practicamente solos!

Don't be fooled by this sky, the weather was absolutely glorious! 

Que este cielo no te engañe, el tiempo estaba maravilloso!

We worked up an appetite, after all that walking and carried on wandering the streets of Mijas until we stumbled upon Oscar's Tapas Bar.
Nos entró un hambre después de nuestro paseito y continuamos andando hasta tropezarnos con el Bar de Tapas de Oscar. 

The sun was scorching and it got me all exited for the Summer to arrive!

El sol estaba que quemaba y me entró muchísimas ganas de que llegase el verano!

Alex had discovered paella and was making the most of real proper Spanish paella from Spain.

But there is always room for ice cream. Especially when it is made in the "Happiness Laboratory"

Pero siempre hay sitio para helado. Sobretodo cuando viene de aquí, del laboratorio de felicidad

This is the Mayan Monkey Mijas Chocolate Factory. They home-make all of their chocolate and ice cream upstairs in their factory, and downstairs they claim to have the world's best ice cream.

He aquí la fábrica de chocolate del Mayan Monkey Mijas. Fabrican todo su chocolate y helado arriba y debajo tienen su tienda dónde venden, según ellos, el mejor helado del mundo.

My sample tasted like a slice of heaven in my mouth. I didn't even ask what flavours I got, I just asked for a real size of that one. 

Mi muestra estaba divino. Ni siquiera pregunté que sabores llevaba, solo pedí una versión grande de esto

I think Alex got White Choc + life changing BROWNIE, I really don't remember what we got. It was just amazing!
Creo que Alex pidió Choc Blanco + BROWNIE que te cambiará la vida, la verdad es que no me acuerdo. Sólo sé que estaba riquísimo!

Whilst we recovered from our food babies, Chia became very pensive in thought...

It didn't last long. Soon enough we were back wandering the streets

Oh! I forgot to tell you the other thing Mijas is famous for!

I refuse to ride them because they look too sad, but I couldn't allow Chia to go without riding a donkey

Okay, so it might have been made out of steel... But I think he enjoyed it too much!

Bueno, estaba hecho de acero... Pero creo que le gustó demasiado!

It had just turned 6pm and we had just enough time to catch the sunset, if we moved fast. I whizzed us back home to grab some hoodies and a couple of beers and we arrived at the beach just in time to catch the last of the day's rays in Cabopino.
Acababa de sonar las 6 y teníamos tiempo para ver la puesta del sol si ibamos rápido. Volvímos corriendo a casa a coger unos jerséis y un par de cervezas y llegamos a la playa de Cabopino justo a tiempo para ver los últimos rayos del día. 

While the sun set in the West the sky was beautifully pink on the other. What a delight!

Mientras el sol se ponía al oeste el cielo estaba precioso y rosa al otro lado. Que deleite!

Ah the perfect end to a perfect day!

Chicken Noodle Soup

I wish chocolate had magic healing powers. One bite and you were all better.

I've had the flu this week and it's been horrible. Confined to my bed since Tuesday and all I kept wishing for was magic chocolate to make me better! I refuse to be ill.
He tenido la gripe esta semana y ha sido horrible. Metida en la cama desde el Martes y sólo deseaba chocolate mágico para poner me buena! Me niego a estar enferma. 

Chicken noodle soup is the next best thing! One bowl and you'll be bouncing off the walls in no time. Sopa de pollo con tallarines es lo siguiente! Un bol y estarás saltando por las paredes en nada!

When I was eventually able to stand without feeling dizzy, I got straight to the kitchen. It's a magic recipe and easy to make even if you feel like dying!
Cuando podía ponerme de pie sin marearme, lo primero que hize es dirigirme a la cocina. La receta es mágica y fácil de hacer aunque te estés muriendo!

Okay enough of that. Time for the recipe. Here's what you'll need for 2/3 people:
Esto es lo que necesitas para 2/3 personas:

Olive oil                                                           Aceite de oliva

2 spring onions                                                  2 cebolletas

2 garlic cloves                                                    2 dientes de ajo

2 chicken thighs (oven roasted)                          2 traseros de pollo (asados)

2 mushrooms                                                      2 champiñones

Fresh ginger (thumb size)                                   Jengibre (tamaño del pulgar)

700 ml chicken stock                                          700 ml caldo de pollo

3/4 tbsp fish sauce                                              3/4 cuchara salsa de pescado

Soy sauce                                                           Salsa de soya

3/4 can of sweetcorn                                           3/4 lata de maíz

2 red chillies                                                       2 chiles rojos

A handful of coriander                                       Un puñado de cilantro

A hanfdul of rice noodles                                    Un puñado de tallarines de arroz

First you need to whack on your chicken, if you don't have any roast chicken left over. Set your oven to 180ºC, place your chicken thighs in an ovenproof dish with an onion, lots of garlic and a good glug of olive oil and cook for 40 minutes in the oven. Once its cooked remove the skin and shred the meat for your soup.

Lo primero es cocinar el pollo, si no tienes restos de pollo asado. Precalienta el horno a 180ºC, vierte el pollo en una bandeja de horno con cebolla, mucho ajo y mucho aceite de oliva y cocinala al horno durante 40 minutos. Cuando esté hecha, quita la piel y corta la carne para la sopa. 

Chop up your spring onions, garlic, coriander and mushrooms. 

Corta las cebolletas, ajo, cilantro y champiñones. 

Then cook your spring onions and garlic on a low heat with some olive oil. Keep stirring so it doesn't stick to the bottom. 

Ahora salteamos las cebolletas a fuego lento con un poco de aceite de oliva. Sigue removiendo para que no se quemen. 

Then add your shredded chicken once the onions have softened. I also like adding the leftover olive oil and onions from my roast chicken for added flavour.

Cuando las cebollas estén transparentes añde el pollo cortado. A mi me gusta añadir también el aceite, ajo y cebolla que sobra tras cocinar los traseros. 

Keep stirring.
Sigue removiendo. 

Now add your mushrooms and ginger. Keep stirring until the mushrooms have softened.
Ahora hechamos los champiñones y el jengibre, y removemos hasta que se cocinen los champiñones. 

Add your chicken stock and fish sauce. Stir. 

Añade el caldo de pollo y la salsa de pescado. Remuevelo. 

And a generous helping of soy sauce! Stir some more.
Añade una generosa cantidad de salsa soya! Remuevelo un poco más.

Now its noodle time! Add them raw and they will cook in the broth.
Es hora de hechar los tallarines! Se añaden crudos y cocinarán en el caldo. 

Then, take your sweetcorn and chilli

Ahora, coge tu maíz y chiles

And scatter it all over. Give it a good stir.

Y dispersalo por el caldo! Remuevelo bien. 

Sprinkle over your coriander and stir it up some more.
Añade el cilantro y remuevelo un pelín más. 

Now you just need to wait until it reaches boiling and et voila, it is ready to eat!

Ahora te falta esperar hasta que hierva y después la sopa estará lista para comer!

Serve in a bowl with a fork and a spoon, on a tray so you can eat it snuggled up in bed whilst you recover from the nasty flu.

Sirvelo en un bol con tenedor y cuchara, sobre una bandeja para que te lo puedas comer calentita en la cama mientras te recuperas de la gripe asquerosa.
